My Philosophy of Teaching

The 21st century brings many exciting and multifaceted challenges for prospective public school administrators as they attempt to provide a successful and equitable public school education for all students. These stem from enriched state and federal core curriculum content standards, changing enrollments, an evolving socioeconomic base, increased accountability, and a critical need for appropriate technology and related training and staff development to improve and enhance student learning. My vision and goal as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Educational Leadership at Kean University is to assist the department’s students in developing the skills and concepts identified by the ISLLC 2008 standards to successfully meet these 21st century challenges.

I believe in a pedagogy that engages the students in the learning process by incorporating a variety of practical and applied activities that facilitate each student’s understanding of the demands and responsibilities of a contemporary administrator. Active engagement of the learner is a priority that I accomplish through a variety of techniques, which includes, but is not limited to the use of discussion and debate, small and large group brainstorming activities, individual and group presentations, case studies, problem based learning activities, web-based assignments and activities (Internet), and simulations.
